Natal Jupiter Retrograde
Ahhh Jupiter, Zeus, King of the Gods! This great benefic is the largest planet in our solar system, and ALMOST became a second sun! Yes, our solar system was almost binary and life as we know it would not exist. Would we exist?
All he had to do was gather a bit more matter… then he would’ve become a star. It’s interesting to note that data gathered NASA probes have shown that Jupiter radiates much more energy than expected…. As if the planet’s energies are turned inward, simmering, and trying to NOT explode into becoming a star.
I love this analogy when it comes to explaining how natal Jupiter retrograde feels.
In traditional astrology, he is the bringer of faith, happiness, abundance, luck, fated experiences, satisfaction, joy, laughter, confidence, and all things we love to have and experience. He expands everything he touches. He wants us to seek higher knowledge and experiences that will ultimately help us accept others who are not the same as us. In this way, he helps us cultivate empathy, sympathy, and wisdom.
He also connects us to our immediate peer group and helps us interact with the outside world.
At first glance, it might be easy to assume that if Jupiter is retrograde in the natal chart, that all these wonderful things would be reversed and negated. This is not true! I have found this particular natal retrograded planet to be one of the most misunderstood. Let’s talk about it.
A natal retrograde Jupiter profoundly expands a person’s inner world. As they mature, they tend to become VERY spiritual, usually in an unconventional way. Honestly, as they age, their life improves more and more.
They are their own guru and tend to be very cautious when it comes to who they learn from and how. Conventional or formal education may be challenging for them, not because of a lack of intelligence (actually, brilliance is a great possibility), but because they are seeking their OWN truth. They question authority and traditional wisdom.
Jupiter retrograde in the natal chart individuals make their own luck. They can sometimes be not so smart with their finances when they are young, but this tends to improve with time like everything else in their lives. They often feel like they are “late bloomers” or that everyone else is doing better or is ahead of them until they understand that their unique journey is closely tied to great INNER satisfaction. They can and often do make a lot of money, but it isn’t the money that makes them happy, it’s the inner journey to their destination.
They can work incredibly hard to become the best in their field. This is part of their journey of inner satisfaction. While they are honing their skills behind the scenes, often others misunderstand or misread them and may think they don’t have great self-esteem or are unsure of themselves.
This is not necessarily the case. The deep truth with this natal retrograde is that there is a karmic fear, rooted in past life energy, that whispers in their ear that they cannot or should not be seen. They fear coming across as pompous, arrogant, or “too much.”
This is part of the reason why they are so diligent about making sure they are highly skilled and well educated in their field. They will not step forward until they feel deeply within that they have earned the right to be listened to through becoming masterful. The inner guru.
