Fixed Star Fomalhaut, the Solitary One
Fixed Star Fomalhaut, the Solitary One
Fomalhaut, located at 3°52’ of Pisces, is one of the four Royal Stars associated with our 4 most familiar archangels. Archangel Gabriel is associated with Fomalhaut and is known as the Watcher of the South. Also called the Guardians of Heaven and the Four Royal Architects, Regulus, Antares, Aldebaran, and Fomalhaut have been used as navigational guides for centuries. They have also been seen as connected to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in the Book of Revelations.
Fomalhaut is often described as a red star, but it’s classified as a Blue/White Class A star, like Vega. I’ll say right here that I have mispronounced the name of this star plenty of times. Apparently the correct pronunciation is FO-ma-low which is quite different from my butchery “formal-hot”. Considering Fomalhaut is known as the “Solitary One”, I like to think of this star as dressed up and looking fine as hell (formal-hot) as to attract some company. You see, even as the 18th brightest star in our night sky, Fomalhaut has no bright star neighbors as he stands watch over the arrival of autumn, low in the southern sky, but with unshakeable dignity.
Associated with passionate love affairs, artistic pursuits, and fortunate financial pursuits, this is one of the few fixed stars that historically has overwhelming positive attributes.
Around 500 BC, Fomalhaut was venerated by the ancient Greeks. It was the object of sunrise worship in the Temple of Demeter at Eleusis which was home to the religion of the Eleusinian Mysteries, which thrived from 1700 BCE - 170 CE and appealed to all social classes all over the ancient world.
The Eleusinian Mystery religion revealed the mysteries of Demeter and her daughter Persephone to those initiated. There were vows of secrecy and an intentional lack of written records of these mysteries, but their effect on the ancient people was profound.
What we do know is that this spiritual path filled its followers with a deep sense of spiritual purpose and joy. Both Plato and Cicero recorded glowing reviews of the tenets of these mysteries and the positive effect they had on the people.
There's some really good reading about what we know here.
The constellation of Pisces, Piscis Austrinus, is viewed mythologically as the fish that swallowed the severed phallus of Osiris. It is believed that this represented the shift of the ages from Aries to Pisces.
Fomalhaut also holds astronomical interest as an orbiting exoplanet was discovered, Fomalhaut B. Thought to be an exciting new world, it’s a bummer to learn that new studies show it’s likely just a huge dust cloud.
“Fomalhaut, one the Four Royal Architects, inspires future vision for an evolved humanitarian-based society. Fomalhaut inspires new ideas and pursuits in the art-sciences, in technology, and in social issues of the world. Fomalhaut promotes the flow of resources within the human populous that creates a wholesome human condition. Fomalhaut defies convention and compartmentalization, but supports individuality, progress, and freedom.” –Nick Anthony Fiorenza
Archangel Gabriel, Fomalhaut’s angelic representative, is known to be the being who recited the Quran to Mohammed over a 23 year period. He is also one of only 2 angels named in the Bible. He appeared to Daniel to explain his visions and appeared to the Blessed Mother to tell her of the coming birth of Yeshua. Additionally, the Yezidi, followers of an obscure Sufi religion, hold Gabriel as a central figure in their creation myth where he takes the form of a bird. Even more obscure than the Yezidi, the Yaresan, known as “Worshippers of the Truth,” also hold a prominent place for Gabriel who was the first to be created by their God in order to alleviate the loneliness of the creator. Gabriel then learned Ya’s ways (Ya was/is their name for God) before more angels were created. If information like this interests you, I highly recommend the book The Cygnus Mystery by Andrew Collins, as well as the classic History of God.
An interesting note regarding chart interpretations, if a person has 2 or more Royal Stars in their natal chart, this person would live a life that includes much change. Dramatic highs and lows create or reveal a powerful, strong inner strength and character. There is an energy to these individuals that leaves a lasting impression on others. This seems appropriate considering these are the “royal” stars. This is something we can explore in a Deep Dive Reading, Customized Session, or Galactic Blueprint reading.
@Karen – Yes I mean that if they have 2 or more of these stars in prominence, meaning tightly conjunct a personal planet or an angle. Aspects to the stars don’t count.
Fascinating! You mention how if someone has two or more of these Royal Stars in their chart, it can indicate a lot of change, etc. Presumably though you mean if these are particularly aspected, as they’ll be in everyone person’s chart. It just looked them up on mine and it is interesting to see how they impact…lots of food for thought!

I was guided to this page at the time Saturn is conjunction toy North Node 3 pisces 35. I am aware for years about the royal star and knowing At hangel Gabriel as a Messenger. Came in a dream also. Hi Ananda, thanks for this article, so many nice relate rabbit holes to go down as well! 💙 i am fascinated with Fomalhuat ever since this name was repeated to me in a dream about 12 years ago i guess. I had never heard the name before, that i can recall, and i was interested to discover that its located in Pisces (my north node) and the association with Archangel Gabriel. I’ll be following your info trail on Eleusinian mysteries. Persephone is an archetype which has been strongly present for me, and in my matrilineal line. Boing boing!🐇🐇🐇
